It was a sudden end to a fantastic season. Our LaPorte Texans came in with high hopes of taming the Deer Park Tigers and playing in the Super Bowl held in Bulldog stadium this year, but it was not to be.
The Tigers physically dominated our Texans on this day. It truly was just their day. During the season we played teams that were bigger and stronger than us, but we were able to use skill, brains and great coaching to achieve victory. Deer Park - at least on this day - gave us an obstacle we simply were not able to overcome. Congratulations to the boys and their Coaching Staff. I hope they do well in the Super Bowl on December 4th.
Here are my end of the year observations. First, we have and excellent group of men that coach our boys. I have commented on them in newsletters, but after seeing all of the teams through the year, I wouldn't trade our coaching staff for any of them. They care about the boys. They care about winning. But they care most about seeing these boys turn into great young men. As parents, my wife and I are proud to be affiliated with the men who lead and coach the Sophomore LaPorte Texans. Thanks Coach Ron to you and your staff for a great year!
Secondly, we have some great parents. The fun and fellowship that we have had at games and practices are almost as rewarding as the games themselves. Each year we think that the parents can't get any better - but each year they seem to. Playing 12 other teams through the year also gives you insights to other parents and their teams. Maybe I am biased, but it seems to me that our parents were the best at supporting the boys in every part of the game. I think - I hope - we strive - to make the Texans organization one that is characterized by dignity and class.
For the most part - there were a couple of minor exceptions - our parents cheered our boys, lifting them up with positive words of encouragement helping our boys to accomplish great things.
Thirdly, I am going to miss all of this. My Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays just won't be the same for a while. And while I will miss going to the Super Bowl, I will miss just as much the fun that we had as a Texan Family during practices and at games.
Finally, again congratulations to the Deer Park Tigers. You accomplished with 11 other teams could not. You beat the Texans. (smile) You should be proud. Prepare for the Super Bowl - but understand, we are looking forward to seeing you again next year.
Thanks Texans Parents. Looking forward to seeing the boys in the pads in August!
