PLAYOFFS: LaPorte Texans –vs- Hitchcock Red Raiders
Victory 18-12 Season Record – 11 wins 0 losses
Man oh man! Has Hitchcock’s Number 2 stopped zig-zagging across the field yet? Pins and needles are how you describe a game like the Sophomore Texans had against the Hitchcock Red Raiders this last Saturday. Even on Hitchcock’s last offensive play – until big brute Eric Kendzoir wrapped his arms around “The Rock” – it was hard to breathe! They may have had a great team, but the Sophomore Texans were better! Coach Ron and Coach Steve were walking to their cars after the game when one of the Hitchcock parents stopped them and said, “We hate to loose, but we lost to a better team today. Your team is the most disciplined team we have ever played!” I think I almost saw Coach Ron blush! What a compliment!
The Texans Defense was spectacular! They stayed home all day long containing the speed of the Hitchcock Red Raiders. It had been just a few days earlier when the Coaches and some of the Dad’s saw defensive breakdowns by the Red Raider opponents that led to several long and winding touchdown runs. But because of great coaching and great execution, the Texans Defense held the potent Red Raider offense to one touchdown. Special Teams executed well except for one kick-off coverage slip-up that allowed number 6 to rumble in for a touchdown. Coach Mark is going to do everything possible this week during practices to keep that from happening again.
The Texans Offense was amazing. Long, time-consuming drives ate up the clock and kept the ball away from Hitchcock. Coach Rae’s HAWGS continued to open hole after hole for the backs to rumble through. The passing game loosened up the Hitchcock defense to allow plenty of room for the Texans to move the ball.
Next up is the Deer Park Tigers. The Tigers enter the game with 10 wins and 2 losses with their losses being to the Clear Lake Space Raiders and an early season loss to the Hitchcock Red Raiders. While the Tigers don’t have the quickness of the Red Raiders, they are well coached and disciplined. It will be a great game this Saturday at
